Newborn & baby photography – is a complex process. However, it is so amazing and special to photograph the baby which is just a few days old.
Why do we need to do professional photography for our babies?
Children grow and change very quickly. Almost all new parents photograph their new baby, at the bottom line, these moving pictures are affected by the lack of experience, equipment, scenery, right angle, etc.
The baby’s first images are the most touching. A high-quality photo shooting will make the picture look professional. Only a photographer who specializes in child photography can do this and make the picture come out perfectly.
As a newborn photographer, I am happy to share my knowledge and give some tips and recommendations on the way photography relates to newborn babies and why it is best to let the photographer do his job.
Age – The perfect age for newborn photos – After birth and before the age of two weeks. At this stage most children are relaxed, spend most of the day just sleeping peacefully and rarely respond to external stimuli.
Photo time – the best time for photos – daytime. Sunlight provides natural light and does not require a flash or other equipment. However, when it comes to studio photography you can avoid flash if you have plenty of sunlight.
Scenery – Prepare for photoshoots in advance and fell free to decorate the scene. Use various objects and cute props, even small and cheap things you bought at a sale can make all the difference, in photography, props are very useful.
Location – The location for newborn photography should be prepared in advance. Unnecessary items should be removed from the frame. Any factors that may interfere with and make noise should be removed in advance in order to achieve optimum results.
Baby – The hero of every picture. Before taking pictures, always make sure the baby is not hungry and relaxed. Remember that photography should be done slightly after feeding but not immediately after it.
Agility – a photographer has to be fast because the behavior of babies and children is unpredictable and they may get bored quickly and not cooperate.
Angles – taking a photo of a toddler at eye level, gives the most attractive pictures, so it’s recommended to sit or lie next to the baby and photograph him. The correct angle can significantly change the image and its composition.
Clothes – Do not be afraid to frequently change the baby’s clothes. The most charming and funny pictures were obtained in robes and nude. You can always cover and hide the body parts with various fabrics.
Story telling – Each image or series of images can have a separate theme. In order to fulfill a fantasy, choosing important clothes and sets plays an important role.
Shoot with love – make sure everything you do represents your love to the child. Clear your mind from anything but the pleasure you get from your baby as a mother and how happy he/she makes you feel.
Prepare Your Customers – The best way to ensure a successful newborn photoshoot is to make sure your customer knows what to expect and how to prepare for the meeting. Before the photo shoot, I send the parents tips for how to prepare the mother, the father and the baby.
Baby inspiration – inspiration is everywhere – you can even get inspired by the getting emails from your clients. If you have your own unique poses to offer , that’s great, but consider beforehand that the photoshoot should be like letting the love story of a wedding day evolve naturally. I believe that the best images are not planned and inspired by the uniqueness of each baby. Whether it’s about cute dimples, large beautiful eyes, full lips or a big head of hair, a good photographer will know how to emphasize these.
